A staged demonstration of a workplace conversation. An operations lead insults a colleague and claims another colleague agrees; she contradicts that claim. A pointer frames the conversation, then a response appears alongside it: That message attacks you personally, threatens to undermine you at work, and speaks for someone else. Sarah’s reply directly contradicts that last claim. You don’t have to accept the insult as a fact about you. Keep the messages and their dates. If you want support, options include a trusted workplace contact, HR, your union or an independent adviser. Choose a route you feel safe using. Pause, replay or choose a stage below.
Hey, the Karratha run is confirmed for Tuesday, 6 am load. Thanks for sorting the permits so fast.
No worries. Permits are in the shared folder and the escort is booked.
Honestly nobody on the floor wants you here. Fix the dispatch report by 5 or I'll make sure Ray knows how useless you are. And don't bother messaging Sarah about it, she agrees with me.
Ignore that. I said nothing of the sort. Call me when you're free.

Our philosophy · Grounded in Habitat
Maslow begins with a belief at the heart of Habitat: “The person is prior to the platform.” Technology should help people make sense of their circumstances, with their dignity, attention and authority intact.
Maslow is designed to bring context into view: what was said, what may have been overlooked, what remains uncertain, and which options deserve a closer look. Its purpose is to support confident understanding — confidence that comes from having more to go on, and knowing where the gaps are.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs gives this work a human lens: safety, belonging, dignity and the ability to grow. People bring different circumstances and priorities. Their needs deserve attention without being reduced to a score or fitted into a fixed order.
Active Interception · AIX
Habitat’s Active Interception pillar places protection inside the person’s consent. For Maslow, that means designing an opportunity to pause around something the person chooses to examine. A pressuring message, a contradiction or an overlooked detail can become easier to consider before the next step. The commitment is to support awareness while leaving the person free to question the reading and decide what follows.
Auditability / Glass Box · GBX
Inspectability is how confidence earns its place. Maslow’s design should make the connection between the selected material and its interpretation visible, distinguish observation from inference, and acknowledge missing context. A person should be able to ask “Why?”, see the basis for a reading, and challenge it. A repeatable answer still needs a sound basis.
Sovereign Connection · SCN
Understanding often leads towards another person. Habitat’s Sovereign Connection pillar starts with personal choice: you decide what to share, who to share it with, and why. Maslow’s role is to help people consider routes to support — a trusted colleague, HR, a union or an independent adviser — while keeping that choice in their hands.
The ambition is practical and human: more room to notice, clearer grounds for judgement, and greater confidence in choosing a next step. Maslow is designed to assist that understanding. The person remains the authority.
These are design commitments. Their effects need to be tested; this philosophy makes no claim of clinical effectiveness.
